Psychoanalysis and German Idealism

In this video we could hear three different perspective on the relation between psychoanalysis and German Idealism by Zizek, Alenka Zupancic and Mladen Dolar. I personally liked Dolar presentation. He talked about awakening and its relation to the experience of modernity was novel and thought provoking. In establishing the relation, Kafka' Metamorphosis played a role which was new to an admirer of Kafka like me. Hope you enjoy it!

Events - Autumn - CFAR Public Seminars

The Centre for Freudian Analysis and Research here in London have recently uploaded their programme for this Autumn's public seminars. Loosely taking the question of time in Freud and Lacan as their starting point, the seminars will run every Saturday from September the 29th to December the 8th. More information can be found of the CFAR website.

Next Meeting - 12/08 - Position of the Unconscious

This Sunday we'll be ploughing our way through another of Lacan's Ecrits from the mid 60s. Meet in Laurie Grove Baths, G1 from 4-6. You can read or download 'Position of the Unconscious' here on Scribd.

Tuesday 17 July 2012

Next Meeting - 24/07 - Suture (elements of the logic of the signifier)

As a compliment to last week's reading, next Tuesday we'll be looking at an essay by Jacques Alain-Miller entitled 'Suture (elements of the logic of the signifier)'. Miller's text appeared alongside 'Science and Truth' in the first issue of the Cahiers pour l'Analyse, a landmark journal in the history of French thought (soon to be re-published in edited book form by Verso).

A translation of Miller's text can be found on the Lacanian Ink website, and a synopsis, as well as the original french version can be found on the Kingston University Cahiers project website.

As usual, we'll be meeting in Laurie Grove Baths, G1, from 3-5.

Wednesday 4 July 2012

Next Meeting - 16/07 - Science and Truth

From 3-5 on the 16th July we will be discussing 'Science and Truth', in Ecrits (trans. Bruce Fink). The venue will be Laurie Grove Baths, G1. All welcome

Next Meeting - 28/03 - The Subversion of the Subject

This Wednesday from 4 - 6 we will be discussing Lacan's ecrit entitled 'The Subversion of the Subject and the Dialectic of Desire in the Freudian Unconscious.' It's a notoriously tricky text, so it was decided that we would split the reading into two halves of roughly 15 pages each. In the Fink translation this takes us up to p. 684, just before the second 'graph of desire'. The venue has changed to G1 in Laurie Grove Baths - first door on the right as you enter the building.

Tuesday 13 March 2012

Next Meeting - 15/03 - Female Sexuality

The next Lacan reading group will take place this Thursday (the 15th of march) from 4 - 6 in Warmington Tower - Room 1204. As agreed last time, we will be looking at the essay 'Guiding Remarks for a Convention on Female Sexuality', available in The Ecrits (trans. Bruce Fink), or here on Scribd. All welcome.
